José Arturo Molina

Professor and Researcher, University of Costa Rica (Costa Rica)

Doctor and Master in Sciences with an emphasis in Bioinformatics, with training in Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, and Mathematics, and honorary doctorate awarded by the International Organization for Inclusion and Quality Education (OIICE). He is currently a Professor and Scientific Researcher at the University of Costa Rica, collaborating as a researcher with the European Bioinformatics Institute (London, UK) and the Human Phenome Institute (Shanghai, China). Recipient of the 2024 Innovation in Microbiology Award (International Biocientífica) and the 2025 Professional Excellence Award.

He coordinates and has contributed to research, teaching, and training projects in data analysis in biosciences, pathogens (antimicrobial resistance), and human genomics. His research focuses on bioinformatics, mathematical and computational modeling, systems biology, and artificial intelligence/data mining, particularly in projects examining the complexity of biological systems related to human diseases.

In line with the objectives of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance and the the BELLA II project led by RedCLARA, TICAL provides a forum for strategic dialogue and exchange of experiences among the NRENs members of RedCLARA on strengthening regional science, technology, and innovation; promotes the identification of common challenges and opportunities of digital transformation for the economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean, and seeks to identify the cornerstones for building a common development agenda based on digital.
